Theme Thursday - HALLOWEEN

At the studio, the students are making statements this week about when they will be practicing. They are going to fill out a POGO Stick Practice minutes Post-it note, which I attached to a full size candy bar. This is an up-front motivational tool to see if the schedule they stated to me is going to work. The form is not a judgment. It is to see whether the times that they stated to me are going to work as they thought it would this week.

Stalker-creepy, yet deliciously wonderful, here is the "Music of the Night", from Phantom of the Opera, for your Halloween pleasure. Take time to watch and listen how truly mesmerizing is the spell he casts. Oooh, I could fall into a trance like that....

  2. Someday, I'm going to force myself to watch the musical. (That's not a put-down! It's just that I like the Lon Chaney, Claude Rains, and Herbert Lom versions, and can't forget the review of the 1940s version which said "too much opera, not enough phantom.") But sincere thanks for the preview!

  6. An opera fan, I realize that "Phantom of the Opera" is not opera. But I had not seen this before and I have to agree. Haunting. Mesmerizing. Truly wonderful. Thank you for taking me to that place.

  9. Huh! I would have bet you'd have posted a version of Danse Macabre, especially since Saint-Saƫns originally wrote it for voice and piano (the words were Cazalis' poem of the same name), and then scored it for piano and violin, before coming up with that full orchestral score.

Unfortunately I'm not a big Andrew Lloyd Weber fan. Oh well...

  10. I'm not actually a huge A.L.W. fan either, but I thought about my students and how they are requesting to play music from his works all the time. What candy do you like Roy?

  11. That is Gerard Butler of "300" fame. I wouldn't have known that but I watched him host "SNL" weekend before last What a talent!

  13. Wow. Love the Music of the Night and the Phantom of the Opera so much - One of my fave films ever. Yes, I agree when someone commented that it was haunting but definitely gorgeous and romantic. Nice choice of music. You've got a very nice and interesting blog here, my friend. I always feel glad whenever I encounter people who have the same passion and love for music like what I actually have. I also admire your efforts to share your bright ideas on music education especially in teaching piano. Keep on sharing useful and creative piano teaching resources Have a nice weekend, my friend. Happy Halloween! See you around. Cheers!
